LWR revs up for MG car rally at Ludborough station
Over 50 pre-war MG sports cars from all over Europe will be visiting the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway for a rally on Wednesday 19th August. The procession of cars will arrive around 2 pm and will be displayed in the car park field while the drivers take a ride on the steam train to North Thoresby and back.
The 4-cylinder MG ‘Midgets’, and 6-cylinder ‘Magnas’ and ‘Magnettes’ were built between 1929-1936 and the owners are all members of the ‘Triple-M Register’, a section of the MG Car Club.
MG developed the Triple-M cars through their conspicuous success on the race track and in other competitions in the early to mid-1930s. They transformed the motoring scene with these high performing, small-engined, high-revving cars, which are still raced to this day. The cars achieved conspicuous success in period in road and track race events such as the TT, the Mille Miglia and other GP racing for small cars. All the cars appearing at the event are road cars, but many are supercharged and capable of a remarkably brisk turn of speed!
Steam trains will be running most Wednesdays and every Sunday at the LWR during August.
