The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway is giving steam lovers the opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream, with a ride in the cab of one of its locomotives.

One fan of steam, Bethany Taylor, from Brant Broughton, recently took a trip on one of the railway’s engines called ‘Spitfire’ on her 22nd birthday.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my footplate ride,” said Beth. “I just love steam trains and it was a surprise present from my parents – I had no idea where I was going on the day!”

“While I was on the engine the driver and fireman showed me all the controls and explained how a steam locomotive works. I had a go at stoking the fire and applying the brakes – and I just loved pulling the whistle!”

If you ever fancied being a signalman, the railway also gives visitors the opportunity to spend half a day learning the ropes in the signal box at Ludborough station, where you get to pull the levers and open the crossing gates.

Our footplate ride and signal box experience are becoming very popular and make the perfect gift with a difference, whatever the occasion. You can get more information and book online at our website https://lincolnshirewoldsrailway.co.uk/courses/
